ShmooCon Hack Fortress
The Shmoo Group
The Shmoo Group is a non-profit think-tank of like-minded individuals who share a passion for information security research and development. TSG members' expertise incorporates field-dressing a moose to extragalactic astrophysics to Python capabilities, cutting-edge wearable computing to encryption to sharp-shooting. The group mind adds a razor-sharp sense of sarcasm to a refusal to take anything about the Internet seriously, mixed liberally with tequila, community service, wireless networking and RFID hackery.
ShmooCon 2011 introduces a new competition, Hack Fortress, combining elements of two previous ShmooCon events, "Hack or Halo" and the "Team Fortress 2 LAN party." Calling upon the best of both, Hack Fortress will pit teams of players against one another in a dual-challenge event over the course of a day.
Separate challenges but both occurring at the same time, teams will consist of two elements battling with their wits and trigger-fingers. One portion of a team will engage in an all-out TF2 bracketed tournament--pitting their best TF2 players against another team's. At the same time, the second element of a team will attempt to tackle the "Hack" challenges familiar from the "Hack or Halo" competition of years past.
